Curious News in Brief

• One of the great British companies has produced fabrics in new colors especially for ladies' underclothing, among them blue, dark red, light crimson, and deep yellow.

• This season's hats will be of the small type, raised in front, and of the medium type trimmed with fur; some will be made of fur and georgette.

• There is a tendency in London toward the wearing of tailored suits: if the suit is of a single color, the lower part is narrow; but if it is of two colors, the lower part (the skirt) can be cut so as to be full. Most of the belts women are using this year are made of the same fabric as the dress.

• The owners of the British factories are producing buttons in the shapes of birds, flowers, butterflies, and bees, made of plastic materials colored in all manner of colors.

• The wearing of gloves made of the same fabric as the dress will spread in London, and the fashion houses are showing, along with the clothes, gloves made of wool, cotton, and artificial silk.

• Consumers of British goods will be pleased this spring, for they will obtain shoes made of plastic materials.

Many Fashions to Choose From

Choosing this winter's clothes will not be a difficult matter for the English lady, because the various fashions from which she may pick out what suits her will be in plentiful supply.

Among these fashions are dresses with rounded shoulders, and dresses with sleeves made in the Japanese manner, some of them with ruffling at the breast. Among the fashions, too, are those dresses that are full in the upper part and the lower, and fit the body at the waist; while dresses made in two colors have a narrow lower part and a full upper part.

Not all women will take up these fashions; rather, they will choose from among them what suits their figures.

Finally, full, loose clothes are considered — especially in Britain — one of the signs of liberation; for the women of the fighting forces spent long years wearing nothing but rough military dress, and this is their chance to be rid of those clothes.
