33 Thousand Dollars for the Lebanese Women's League

٣٣ ألف دولار لجامعة نساء لبنان

The capital's newspapers have announced the news of the telegram received from the Lebanese colony in Venezuela, through the First Lady, the wife of His Excellency the President, containing a gift of 33 thousand dollars to be spent on establishing a kindergarten for the Lebanese Women's League, upon certain conditions. The Lebanese Women's League has accepted those conditions with thanks and has carried out the necessary correspondence in this matter. Here we join our voice to the other voices, and set down the telegram received from the Honorable Dr. Malik in this regard, together with Her Ladyship's letter to Mrs. Tarcha. Mrs. Tarcha has replied with acceptance and thanks, and has addressed a letter to the Honorable Director of the Presidential Chamber, another to the Honorable Director of the Interior, and has likewise addressed a letter to His Excellency the Prime Minister.

Mr. Badawi Abi Lahoud, president of the Lebanese Committee in Venezuela, met me in New York and informed me that the Committee has collected 33 thousand dollars for Lebanon, and they propose to present the sum in the name of the First Lady, the wife of the President of the Republic, for the account of the kindergarten of the Lebanese Women's League, on the following conditions:

1 - That a building for the kindergarten be erected on land provided by the Government.

2 - That the plan be drawn up here on the model of the most modern kindergartens and then presented to the Lebanese Government.

3 - That the building be named after the Venezuelan Committee, in commemoration of Lebanon's independence.

4 - That the money be spent on this building, on its furnishings, and on the teachers' salaries.

Kindly consult Her Ladyship the wife of His Excellency the President of the Republic and inform us whether she finds these conditions suitable, so that we may send the money to you at once; or, if you see the need, I shall resume negotiations.
