The Crown of Your Beauty

تاج جمالك

There is no doubt that what first catches the eye in a beautiful girl is the enchanting halo of her hair, which may rightly be considered her crown — well dressed with comb and brush, and splendidly arranged. And though men are not taken by hair styled in a loud, eccentric fashion, they do admire glossy hair that radiates vitality. However striking a girl's beauty may be, she will not be captivating if she neglects the hair of her head and leaves it hanging loose, without tending it with her own hands, with comb and brush and cleansing.

If the hair of your head, Madam, is the cause of your anxiety lest your beauty be lost, then you must tend it with your care daily, by a simple method, to restore its beauty and vitality to it. Beauty in hair begins first with cleanliness; you must therefore wash it with an excellent kind of soap at least two or three times every three weeks, for hair must be well cleaned before it can become beautiful and glossy.

You must first know your hair's merits and its points of weakness. If it is of the dry type, you must use hair oils on it: rub its ends with such oil, and wipe it with warm oil before washing it with soap. If, on the other hand, it is naturally rich in oily matter, you have only to remove the excess of these oils, which are secreted by special glands, by wiping the scalp with a wad of cotton dipped in a special solution. And if you do not obtain the desired result, you should consult your doctor, and perhaps you may have to give up certain kinds of food.

Do not forget to acquire a good hairbrush, for it helps to give the hair its sheen: its correct use stimulates the oil glands of the skin to secrete, and it polishes the hair and lends it radiance. When you brush your hair, bend your head forward or backward, beginning the brushing at the roots of the hair and working to the ends, brushing each lock of it separately. Do not fear for its arrangement from this operation, if you have had it set at the hairdresser's; for if the set and the wave are good, the use of the brush will not affect them, nor destroy its shape or its arrangement. And if the set and the wave the hairdresser has given you are unbecoming, then do your utmost to remove them and dress your hair anew in a way that guarantees it a lovely, attractive appearance. For it is, without doubt, the crown the Creator bestowed upon you to complete your other marks of beauty.
