In My Library

في مكتبتي

In the library of The Woman's Voice are several books which it is worth your while, Madam, to read. I shall mention them to you, this time, in brief:

The History of the American People

A massive volume of some 350 pages, published by Princeton University and printed at the American Press in Beirut. Its authors are Messrs. Farhat Ziadeh and Ibrahim Farji, under the supervision of Dr. Philip Hitti.

Downpour and Drizzle

A new collection of poems by the Iraqi poet Yusuf Obadia. The printing is not elegant, but the poetry is a sweet breath — the finest that has come our way from the land of the Two Rivers in recent years.

A Vineyard on a Road

A new work by Mr. Mikhail Naimy. The printing is elegant — and no wonder, for it was printed by Dar al-Ma'arif in Egypt. The book contains fragments and contemplative maxims on a high level of

depth in imagination and thought. Nor is this anything strange coming from Mr. Naimy, who has accustomed us to breathing into Arabic literature all that is lofty and sublime.

The Most Famous Love Letters

A delightful collection of the most famous and finest love letters. Translated by Mr. Samir Shikhani and published by Dar al-Makshuf in Beirut.

Whirlwind

A collection of poems in the Lebanese vernacular, composed by one of its outstanding poets, Mr. Ajaj al-Muhtar. It runs to 158 pages in small format, and its price is five liras L.S. What may please you in these poems is their sweetness and delicacy, and the beauty with which they express the poet's feelings and the colors of his thought.
