A Letter from the Women's Union in Gaza

Safa Muhyi al-Din al-Husseini

رسالة من الاتحاد النسائي بغزة · صفاء محي الدين الحسيني

From the woman of letters Miss Safa Muhyi al-Din al-Husseini (Gaza — Palestine) we have received the following gracious letter, which we publish with thanks, welcoming all the news she promises to send us about the Women's Union in Gaza:

Greetings and respect.

I am one of the devoted admirers of your magazine "The Woman's Voice" — the more so as it is a patriotic women's magazine that makes us proud, and makes us feel that the future lies before us...

It is, upon my life, a great glory for the women's organizations in this age that they should have the magazine The Woman's Voice, which spares no effort in the service of the nation in general and the women's circle in particular. I thank from the bottom of my heart this gift proceeding from the ladies of the board of administration and editing. What your distinguished magazine writes of the work of the women's organizations has caught my eye.

And since I am one of the workers in the service of this patriotic field, in the body of the Women's Union in Gaza, I hope you will allow me to be in constant touch with you, so that I may supply you with the news of our association, the Women's Union in Gaza, and with whatever you may wish, for publication in your magazine.

Here, then, is a general view of our association, that you may know of its existence:

A year has now passed since the founding of the Union association in Gaza. It is made up of 90 members, and is presided over by the excellent lady Makram Abu Khadra, the great benefactress.

The association is divided into committees: a committee for sewing, another for first aid, a third for administration, and a committee for visiting the sick and giving alms to the poor.

Last week some members of the first-aid committee visited the dispensary of the Arab Women's Union in Jerusalem, and they admired the activity of the women keeping watch over the service of the sick, and the orderly working of the place.

We hope to establish its like in Gaza soon — may God give us the power to do what is good for our nation and our country. The association has also held a bazaar displaying its handworks, together with the painting and drawing of the excellent lady the wife of Dr. Abdel Fattah al-Sibasi.

And it will undertake to train amateurs in this art in the very near future, God willing.

God has blessed our friend Mr. Rushdi Ma'alouf and his excellent wife with a baby girl, whom they have named Hind. May God delight the eyes of her gracious parents with her.
