The Ladies' Milk Drop Society of Damascus

جمعية نقطة الحليب للسيدات بدمشق

Founded in 1922. Its aim: to spread the principles of child care on sound health lines, to give sterilized milk free of charge to poor children deprived of their mothers' milk, and to treat the sick among them when necessary.

The society has its own woman physician, Dr. Munira al-Azm al-Khayyat.

The society is made up of founding members, subscribing members — women and men — and an administrative body composed of a president, Mrs. Zahra al-Abed; a vice-president, Mrs. Saniyya Ayyubi; a treasurer, Mrs. Asma al-Azm; the accountant, Mrs. Wajiha al-Yusuf; and their two secretaries, Mrs. Hayat al-Mu'ayyad al-Azm and Miss Fatima Diab; together with administrative members.

The society has a sewing workroom which opens every week, where such members as wish gather to sew and to make up clothing and necessities for poor children. The society is conducted with precision and order.

The number of children to whom milk is distributed daily ranges between eighty and a hundred; fifty children are treated there daily; and the society comes forward with the necessary assistance in food and clothing in cases of pressing need.

The society's revenues are made up of the donations of the charitable and benevolent, government assistance, and members' subscriptions.
