A Word of Farewell to Editor-in-Chief Youssef al-Khal

The Woman's Voice

كلمة وداع لرئيس التحرير يوسف الخال · صوت المرأة

This issue of The Woman's Voice will scarcely have arrived before Mr. Youssef al-Khal, editor-in-chief at Dar al-Kitab, has reached the United States, on a journey whose aim is to make contact with the intellectual and press centers of America, in order to observe at close range the currents of thought in the world.

The Woman's Voice was, in Mr. al-Khal's keeping, a trust — and no one can say that he was ever careless of it.

Rather, if credit is due to anyone for this magazine, which has grown and flourished, then the first credit belongs to this young man, who gave it all he possessed of talent and understanding, and who took care to bring it out in this elegant, splendid form, until it became the first of the women's magazines of the Arab world.

The Woman's Voice, having valued Mr. al-Khal's efforts in raising it up and making it a strong and splendid voice among the voices of woman in this country — The Woman's Voice is most anxious always to carry to its former editor-in-chief the finest and most sincere good wishes.

And what allows The Woman's Voice to rest assured about its present and to believe in its tomorrow is its success in entrusting the duties of its editorship to a gifted man of letters who stands in the front rank of our young writers and journalists; a man of letters who drapes the elegant Arabic characters in a rare and spacious imagination and a leaping, wakeful mind. Nor do we think that the standing of Mr. Fouad Suleiman in modern Arabic literature leaves us any need to expatiate on its merits and its possibilities.
