Your Deserted House

بيتك المهجور

Slowly, slowly! From behind the clouds,

the moon looks out in grandeur and pride!

Slowly, slowly, toward the heart of the sky,

the moon glides in beauty and majesty!

But I...

Quickly, quickly, down from the hills I plunge toward the deep valley — and stand transfixed!!

———

...This last letter of mine to you has not one word of pain in it...

Because I meant it to be all joy!

But... read between the lines, and you will see how many things came to my mind that I did not say!

I imagined that everything between us had become a thing forgotten!

And that all my feeling for you had turned to mirage...

But read between the lines. Do you know how I long for you, my beloved, and how lost I am without you?

Your Deserted House

Yesterday I wandered through your little deserted house! And I saw your quiet, darkened room, where the memory still lives, strong and sacred, and a ray of light shining on the bed asleep in the darkness. But you — you are not asleep in the lighted bed!!
