• The articles that Miss Marie Sabri has been publishing on the peasant and the soldier have had a great effect on the souls of many members of Lebanese society. This noble sentiment was made manifest in a letter addressed by Elias Fakhr to Miss Sabri, in which he said: "I content myself now with offering my thanks and my respect to the patriotic, noble Lebanese young woman embodied in your esteemed person — a woman of whose like we stand in need for raising the new generation in a true patriotic upbringing, to buttress independence, to secure liberty, and to spread democracy throughout the beloved Lebanese homeland."
• Radio Lebanon celebrated the seventeenth anniversary of the arrival of the genius Gibran Khalil Gibran at his birthplace, Bsharri. For this occasion a select group of men of letters delivered addresses on Gibran in the various stages of his life and his thought.
• A grievous calamity was that which befell Mr. George Bardaweel and his wife in the loss of their son. We offer our condolences to Mr. Bardaweel and his lady wife, and we ask God that they may never again be bereaved of anyone dear.
• A printing and publishing house has been founded in Beirut under the name "al-Istiqlal Presses," belonging to its two owners, Mr. Mumtaz al-Khatib and Mr. Hasan Itani. This establishment has been equipped with the newest printing machines and implements, and we wish this new house success in the service of learning and letters.
• At the end of August the marriage was celebrated of Mr. Mukhtar Shamli, director of the advertising office at the East Mediterranean Company, to Miss Aida Nehme. To the young bride and groom, our congratulations.
• Dar al-Maarif for Printing and Publishing in Egypt has established an office in Beirut bearing the title "Syria and Lebanon Office of Dar al-Maarif in Egypt." It will work to serve those of its clients who have been in contact with its head office in Cairo, and others; it will be in constant contact with all the bookshops of Syria and Lebanon, their schools and institutions, and all producing men of letters; and it will also fill all orders placed with it directly. The house has entrusted its agency here to the energetic young man Mr. Khalil Tu'mah.
