our waters, of our meadows; all of these speak the homeland's tongue, all of them sing its songs..!"

among strangers..."

(1) From the immortal tale "Atala" by the prince of French prose, Chateaubriand, freely adapted.

— The homeland, O emigrant — let your prayer and your confidence be for it; for the greatness of Rome was founded on nothing but worship of the homeland, and Germany rose and lifted its head after every calamity only by the power of this inspiration!

— And softly: let not misfortunes shake your heart — stand firm! Moral force is half of reality, as Napoleon said, and as he declared: "Life is pain, but the honorable man is he who struggles to remain master of himself!" Let the rays of hope fill your soul and flood over your being, for hope is the greatest of the forces that move peoples, as it moves individuals.

Your homeland — O emigrant — is it those skies, the breathing-space of your freedom; those mountains and waters; or those hills that open the horizons to your gaze and refresh your spirit, until pride runs through your frame? It is the stream of lofty qualities descending from the ancestors to the sons, the register of their heritage, the title of their glory gathered in one!

Your homeland, O emigrant — love it with every fiber of your being, and cry out to it with the poet of the Marseillaise:

"O sacred love of the homeland: you have led us toward dignity and glory; you have united our ranks and strengthened our defending arms! Come, O sacred Liberty! Fight beside your protectors!"

— Your homeland — O emigrant — do not grieve over it; draw for it strength out of weakness, "for right is nothing but a continuous force," as "Le Bon" said; kindle for it light from the fire of injustice, life from struggle..

And you, Arab citizen: pray for Palestine wherever you may be; pray for her in her affliction..
