Deaths

وفيات

Righteous motherhood was bereaved last month by the death of the virtuous Mrs. Hanneh, Umm Farid Attiyeh, at the age of eighty — years she spent in quiet, silent, humane work of good deeds and righteous acts.

Throughout her life she devoted herself to humanitarian works and to raising her children well until they completed their higher studies. In Bino, her husband's town, she founded the "Helping Hand" association: she would gather the young girls and give them lessons in hygiene, teach them handiwork, and direct the minds of the mothers toward modern child-rearing, nurturing in them the spirit of cooperation. Her work was arduous, and efforts and sacrifices were required to purchase a piece of land and build a school where the children of her district could learn; so she wrote to the emigrants, and they supplied her with some money, and she built a school for girls comprising about a hundred pupils, apart from the kindergarten. And she led the first, second, and third companies of the ladies of her town, carrying before them the torch of service and love.

The government recognized her merit and awarded her the gilded Lebanese Order of Merit.

May God enfold her in His mercy.
