The Lebanese Girl in the Girl Guide Movement

الفتاة اللبنانية في حركة مرشدات الكشاف

This is the true path of life, the one that leads to understanding and knowledge, to truth and beauty...

The girl with nature — with the truth of nature, and the truth of herself... Between nature and the girl there is an understanding... Both are sincere; in both there is innocence and goodness.

In a conversation between this magazine's correspondent and the president of the Girl Guides, Miss Amina al-Nomani, the president said:

"This movement was founded four years ago at the Girls' College of the Makassed Charitable Association. Among our essential works," says the energetic president, "is assistance in all its forms... In the ordeal of Palestine we distributed clothing and food to the refugees in Sidon and Tyre. We helped the Red Cross in distributing the daily meals. And in our program are scouting excursions to the various regions of Lebanon and Syria, to come to know our country at close hand.

"Our country is very beautiful, but we do not know it — and that is a national fault in us. The Guides hold official ceremonies at which the scouting certificates are distributed, and these certificates cannot be obtained until [...]

... That was four years ago... a small idea, growing in an atmosphere of sincerity, love, and mutual understanding... and behold, in but an hour of time, it is a splendid movement, carried on by the awakened Lebanese girl...

Sixty girls, from the oldest and most distinguished families of Beirut, laboring hard to foster the beautiful athletic life among the rising generation... a blessed life, all of it good, for body and soul.

From here the free flight begins!

"...the girl has gained a sound grounding in first aid, in certain physical exercises, and in how to signal with flags (semaphore)."

And we see the leader of the Guides very proud as she points to the Guides' participation this year, for the first time — in response to the request of the great educator Zahiyah Dughan — taking part in the College's annual athletic festival, in splendid displays.

On these two pages are some pictures taken of the Guides on an excursion they made to the spring of al-Khurayzat. In these pictures shines forth the pure life the Guides are living.
