its aims, apply its principles, and carry out its content...
And that is because of the continual wars, and because of men's obstinacy for the impossible and women's surrender to fantasy!...
Remember, O man, that there are upon the earth black servitudes that hold sway over men as they hold sway over women... and that it is not within your power to set out alone to free your kind from the bondage of those servitudes, unless there press forward, within you and with you, the mother who rears you, the wife who makes you happy, and the sister who supports you!
And remember, you, my sister woman, that you will not obtain your rights as a human being unless you draw faith and work from these principles and this guidance! Work, then, for your freedom of thought and of action, and for the highest ideals of patriotism and of humanity!
O Lebanese women and men! Remember always that you were the first to teach the world the letters of thought, the arts of building, and the meanings of life... and that your Lebanon was the first to set out toward the easts and the wests — a guiding teacher, in boats, founding cities, an immortal cedar — gathering the one universe in the name of the one existence, making brothers of the one man in the name of a united humanity, and carrying out the message of these eastern lands in an immortal and glorious way.
And remember that the rights of man — woman and man — sprang from your heights and set out from your shores, a bright eastern radiance... and that the Lebanese women and men, the builders of history, were the first to enjoy the rights of man complete in all their meanings...
In the glorious Phoenician eras, and in the era of tolerant Arabism.
And remember that history will return, and will restore to woman — in Lebanon especially, and in the lands of the Arab East generally — her right to be a living human being in the two
states of peace and war, and a working element in the national society and the human sphere, bringing back to the mind of the universe the images of "the working ants" —
the Lebanese and Arab women — under the banner of "Elissar" the Phoenician queen and "Zenobia" the Arab queen, in peace and in struggle for the sake of truth and of life!..
