The 'Woman's Voice' Clinic

عيادة «صوت المرأة»

Some women feel a heaviness in the abdomen in the fourth month of pregnancy, accompanied by pain in the thighs. What is the cause of this?

— It may result from a weakness in the wall of the abdomen; or from chronic inflammations in the tissues adjoining the womb; or from severe stoutness; or from what is brought on by diabetes.

As for the treatment of weakness of the abdominal wall and of the ligaments that hold up the womb, it is the wearing of a belt wrapped around the abdomen to help lift the womb.

The treatment of the chronic inflammations that cause pains in the thighs of the expectant mother is left to the specialist physician.

Severe stoutness: treat it by keeping away from starches and fats in the diet, together with plenty of light exercise, such as walking in the open air.

And the treatment of diabetes is by following the course of treatment proper to that disease.

Among the ugliest things that mar a woman's beauty is hair on her face and on her legs... Is there a remedy to remove this disfigurement?

— We know of ladies on whom hair grows thickly on certain parts of the body; it usually begins after puberty, and its cause is a disturbance in certain of the ductless glands... Pulling the hair out with tweezers or the razor may only increase its growth and its abundance.

It is much to be preferred, when down appears on girls, that they not use these means to remove it.

They would do well to rub the places with diluted peroxide water. The electric needle, at a specialist physician's, may succeed in removing it entirely, but it is a wearisome method for patient and physician alike.

Does woman mature sexually before man?

— This is a common error among people: everyone believes that woman matures sexually before man. Woman's sexual maturity is not complete before eighteen, although some women may marry and bear children before that date; whereas sexual maturity in men is not delayed beyond sixteen.
