• For some time now, the great Palestinian woman of letters, Mrs. Asma Tubi, has been staying amid the hills of Lebanon.

• The readers of "The Woman's Voice" know Mrs. Tubi from the pioneering articles she used to publish from time to time in this magazine.

• In a visit paid by the editorial secretary, she was able to become acquainted with the literary and social activity Mrs. Tubi is carrying on. For besides her literary work for several magazines and newspapers, she devotes a large part of her time to helping 65 refugee families.

• After a continuous struggle lasting 25 years, the great educator Mrs. Aminah Khoury Makdisi has retired from work in her school, which she served, to which she gave of her heart and her blood, and which she raised to the high level worthy of it. Mrs. Aminah Makdisi, though it grieves her to part from this goodly planting, uproots herself from her garden to resume her growth and progress in another goodly garden: she will direct the greater part of her efforts and activity to social and humanitarian service — and no one has worked better in these two fields.

"The Woman's Voice," as it sets upon Mrs. Aminah Makdisi's head a wreath of laurel for her sacrifices and her sacred struggle, wishes the noble institute every success in continuing its educational mission at the hands of its new principal, the capable Miss Rida Jureidini.

• We referred in the last issue to the silver jubilee celebration of the "Ladies' Renaissance" society in Tripoli, at which the government presented the Order of Merit to the president, Mrs. Karima Assi. • The Committee for Raising the Moral Standard of the Lebanese Arab Women's Federation has submitted a petition to the Ministry of the Interior, the Chamber of Deputies, and the Governor of Beirut, demanding the closing of the houses of prostitution in Beirut, after the example of the two sister countries, Egypt and Syria. It puts forward certain proposals concerning these stricken women, that the way may perhaps be prepared for them to pass over to houses of free and honorable work.

• And the president of the Committee for Raising the Moral Standard, the energetic Mrs. Adelaide Rishani, is striving in earnest to pursue this important question, so that it may come into effect and the stain of shame be wiped from this country's brow...

• There arrived from Brazil the worthy émigrée Mrs. Lee Saad, wife of Mr. Suleiman Saad and sister of Mr. Charles Saad, president of the National College in Choueifat, after an absence of nearly thirty years.

There also arrived from Venezuela, to pass the summer season in Lebanon, the worthy Mrs. Suad Salman, wife of the great merchant Mr. Aref Salman.

"The Woman's Voice," as it welcomes the two gracious guests, wishes them a pleasant stay in the soil of the homeland, among family and friends.

• Passing through Lebanon, on her way to Istanbul to spend the summer season, was Her Highness Princess Faiza, sister of His Majesty King Farouk, in the company of her husband, the Honorable Mohammad Ali Rauf.

He was received at the airport by a crowd of family, relatives, and well-wishers; and "The Woman's Voice," as it offers the new lawyer its congratulations, offers them also to his worthy mother and to his father, hoping that George may forever be a title of pride and honor to her.

• At the celebration held by the Daoudiyya school in Abadiyeh for the distribution of diplomas, the accomplished Miss Nahia Ilmiyya delivered an eloquent address on the theme: "If you would know the history of a people, read the history of its young womanhood." She closed it with advice and guidance for the graduates. The principal of the school, Mrs. Anisa Thabet, gave an address in which she thanked those present.
The celebration was attended by a crowd of people of learning and letters.

• The first issue has appeared of the magazine "The Tree," a magazine published by the "Friends of the Tree Society," issued four times a year, containing many technical and instructive agricultural articles, with a select company of men of learning and specialists contributing to its pages.
God keep the society's devoted president, the notable Badr Bey Dimashqiyah, and grant him strength and health to carry on his struggle for the advancement of agriculture in general, and of tree-planting in particular, in Lebanon; and to our colleague "The Tree," long life, and success in carrying out its mission.
