can only hope for the best..."

He set to work... He asked for warm water and told the patient to lie down; he washed his face lightly, then brought out lenses and crystals of various kinds and looked and examined minutely. Then he brought out a number of tubes and vials containing colored liquids — sharp-smelling acids, green and blue — and put drops of them in the eyes... and waited... his watch in his hand... then examined once more... then repeated the round, putting three drops of a green solution in each eye...

Ella believed all this... and

her hope was great that her husband would be cured and his sight restored... and Kennedy pressed his wife's hands, smiling.

In her joy, Ella went straight to the cupboard and brought the pearl, saying: Of course you would like to see it...

Kixon saw it and his eyes gleamed; he longed to seize it quickly, but he restrained himself... He was more expert in pearls than Honer himself. He weighed it in his palm, then put it in his pocket, saying: No doubt it will cover all the expenses.

He ordered the curtains made

of tree leaves lowered, so that no light should seep in to the patient's eyes and harm them... then bound the eyes tightly and said... That is enough for today.

He slept three nights beside "Kennedy," changed the bandages many times, and put, time after time, the blue and green and pink drops into the closed eyes...

On the afternoon of the third day, Kixon wound the bandage firmly around Kennedy's head,

feigning triumph, and said:

How to Use "Evan Williams" Preparations — Lesson Six

These preparations are a little stronger than the other kinds of shampoo, and they are used to renew the life and restore the color of blond hair that has grown dark. They contain no "peroxide," and therefore do not dye the hair — the one when what is wanted is to give the hair luster, and the second to obtain results of stronger effect.

First method: Take the contents of the shampoo packet and the contents of the henna-and-camomile packet and mix them together in a bowl; then add a little warm water to the mixture and stir it until it becomes a sticky paste. Add the water gradually — it must not exceed a quarter of a liter — and keep stirring so that no lumps gather in it. Wet your hair well and apply to it first half the shampoo mixture, then wash it with warm water; after that rub it with what remains of the mixture and leave it on for five minutes; then wash it well with plenty of warm water, and let it dry without using the drying machine.

Second method: Add hot (not boiling) water, gradually, to the contents of the henna-and-camomile packet, stirring the mixture constantly until it becomes a thick paste. Then divide your hair into strands and coat the roots with the paste by means of a small brush — the paste should be hot. After that, cover your head with brown paper or a towel, so as to keep in the heat, and leave the paste on for about 15 or 20 minutes. Meanwhile, add to the contents of the shampoo packet enough warm water to turn it into a sticky paste; then add the rest of the water and go on stirring.

When the 15 or 20 minutes have passed, lift off the paper or the towel, and wash the hair first with warm water, then with half of the remaining shampoo mixture; after that wash your hair with warm water, then rub it with what is left of the shampoo, and at the end wash it with plenty of warm water and let it dry without using the drying machine.
