Woman Does Not Understand Man
(Translated from the Ladies' Home Journal)
It is not easy for a woman to understand a man, for the sweeping differences between the two sexes go beyond the physiological realm into the spiritual and the emotional.
In each of these fields there are vast differences that distinguish man from woman; some of them we know, and others we do not.
The boy outweighs the girl, at the moment he is born, by several ounces, and surpasses her by one inch in length. And all his life long he exceeds her in bodily strength.
And there are wide psychological and social differences between man and woman. Woman is subject to certain physiological conditions that affect her state of mind, such as pregnancy and menstruation — which the man, most of the time, insists on regarding as a natural matter calling for no special care...
Woman surpasses man in the ability to learn languages and to speak them fluently... while he surpasses her in mathematics and in the sciences that call for deep study...
Woman is by her nature more conservative, more bound to moral values and social systems, than man, and more careful than he to hold fast to customs and traditions; while man pays no heed to these matters — he is neither their keeper nor the critic of those who violate them...
Woman by instinct inclines to social life, and longs, most evenings, to spend the evening out of the house; while man prefers the quiet evenings, spent among the newspapers with his legs stretched out, resting from the toil of work...
Man's caloric energy is higher than woman's, and so he needs a larger quantity of food — of nourishing food such as meats and proteins — while woman inclines to eating vegetables and fruits, her tastes turning in the opposite direction...
And for this same reason we find woman more disposed to plumpness. And this fatty layer is her greatest protection against colds and certain passing illnesses.
This is a brief glimpse of the most important differences between man and woman.. And acquaintance with even some of them will make it easier for each sex to grasp the nature of the other sex, to work at accommodating it, and to prevent those violent collisions which so often arise between man and woman as a result of their ignorance of one another's natures.
