The Works of "May"

May in her library, writing.

Bahithat al-Badiya: 1920. In it "May" studies the personality of Malak Hifni Nasif, the great Egyptian woman writer and inquirer who used to sign herself "Bahithat al-Badiya"; it includes a comparison between the "Bahitha's" theory of society and "May's" theory.

Between the Ebb and the Flow: pages on language, literature, art, and civilization.

Darkness and Rays: poetic essays in which "May's" lonely, withdrawn spirit appears; her style in this book is distinguished by a rich poetic quality.

Flowers of Dream: (verse) in French, published over the signature "Isis Copia."

Smiles and Tears: translated from the German — 1911.

Love and Torment: a novel from the English — 1925.

The Return of the Wave: translated — 1925.

Love in Torment: translated — 1925.

The Aim of Life: a lecture — 1922.

The Writer's Message: the last lecture she delivered, at the American University of Beirut in 1938.

May left many articles that were never published, besides the books she is said to have begun writing, of which nothing is yet known — among them the book "Nights of the Asfouriyeh."

Words and Signals: 1922. A collection of speeches, containing 25 addresses, social and philosophical. It holds fine specimens of May's oratorical art. In this book she is a social reformer, calling for help for the poor and the orphan.

Sawanih Fatat: 1922. A collection of thoughts turning on various subjects, gathered into a single book at the suggestion of Wali al-Din Yakan.

Equality: an exposition of the social question that shows wide reading and deep study. In it appears her leaning toward democratic principles.

Al-Sahaif: 1924. This book is divided into two parts: the first, which is the larger, examines the pages of individual persons; the second contains a description of the voyages of Sindbad the Sailor, and the introduction contains valuable observations in literary criticism.
