At the Lebanese Legation's party appear Mrs. Eva Malik, the Honorable Minister Plenipotentiary, and Mrs. Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, Ambassador of India.

Lebanon's Legation

The Lebanese Legation in Washington celebrated the anniversary of independence. The Honorable Dr. Charles Malik and his wife, Mrs. Eva, invited the members of the diplomatic corps and the great political personalities who had been at the United Nations conference, and a high representative of the White House attended the party. The wife of the Honorable Dr. Malik succeeded in giving those present a splendid idea of Lebanon: she displayed the Lebanese flag in colors of red and white roses, with a green bouquet in the shape of a cedar at its heart. She also offered delicious varieties of Lebanese kebab, which the guests tasted with great relish.

The Red Cross

We reported previously that the Lebanese ladies in Argentina had presented the Lebanese Red Cross with a mobile dispensary, through the wife of Lebanon's Minister Plenipotentiary, Mrs. Alice Nahhas. The Red Cross has now begun using this vehicle on its medical rounds to the distant districts and villages.

To Mrs. Nahhas and to all the Lebanese ladies in Argentina go Lebanon's thanks and appreciation.

Woman and the Vote

The Lebanese woman has raised the question of her rights in earnest, and the various women's organizations in Lebanon, foremost among them the Lebanese Arab Women's Federation, have presented memoranda to the government and the Chamber of Deputies asking for the recognition of this right...

The Chamber of Deputies, likewise, has debated this subject in one of its sessions without reaching any result.

We have received from the Women's Solidarity association in Lebanon a forceful memorandum, over the signature of its president Mrs. Laure Tabet, in which it is said:

"This memorandum expresses the desire of the enlightened Lebanese woman, who feels that among her first social duties is to come forward into social and political work with all that she possesses of talents and mental powers... without which Lebanese society remains paralyzed — for what benefit can an advanced society offer, if half of its mental powers is given no opportunity to produce and to give?"

The Cooperation Club

The Cooperation Club association has opened a new branch in Tripoli, at which the distinguished northern woman of letters, Mrs. Helana Ishaq Juha, president of the association, spoke, along with Miss Salwa Zghayb and Mr. Nassar. Refreshments and sweets were then passed among those present in an atmosphere of gaiety and good cheer.

Lectures

The Young Muslim Women's Association in Tripoli held a party at which Miss Najwa Mustafa al-Sayyid delivered the opening address.

Mr. Saadi Basbous gave a talk entitled "An Hour in the Kingdom of the Arab Woman."

And Miss Mamdouha Tawfiq al-Sayyid gave a talk entitled "Where Do We Stand in the Race of Civilization?" We shall publish the talk of this refined young lady in a coming issue of The Woman's Voice.
