... Here is a letter that came to us from a sister of yours, a Lebanese to the core, who has lived away from Lebanon for thirty-five years. She writes:

"A foreign friend of mine, who visited Lebanon some time ago on the occasion of the women's congresses held in your country, showed me the magazine The Woman's Voice, of which she had brought back several issues... She is preparing a study on the women of the Middle East and their renaissance. This foreign friend told me that, proud as she is that woman in Lebanon should have so fine a magazine, she wonders greatly at the scarcity of women's magazines in the Arab world...

I was very happy to see a foreign lady take pride in a magazine published and edited by the women of my country. We here always share your feelings and your hopes."

Then the good lady added to her letter a check for fifty dollars as a subscription to The Woman's Voice.

The magazine The Woman's Voice announces that it will hold a story competition for the women and men of letters of the Arab world.

Its conditions:

1 — The story must be original, never before published or broadcast, and must not be adapted from the events of history.

2 — It must not exceed four pages of The Woman's Voice, that is, about 2,400 words.

3 — It must be written in a clear hand on one side of the page.

4 — It must be signed with a pen name, the real name being placed in a sealed envelope together with the pen name.

5 — It is to be sent to the following address: "The Woman's Voice Magazine," Beirut, P.O. Box 1284 — "Story Competition."

6 — The last date for entries is March 30, 1950.

7 — The result will be announced at the end of April at a public ceremony to be held by The Woman's Voice in honor of the winner, man or woman.

8 — The prize is 150 Lebanese-Syrian lira.

9 — The Woman's Voice reserves the right to publish whichever of these stories it sees fit, without any payment.
