55% of Men Marry Brunettes

If a blonde and a brunette of equal beauty meet in one place, which of them catches the men's attention first?

The statisticians say that 70% of men look at the blonde and 20% of them at the brunette, while for the remaining 10% it is all one which of them they look at.

The reason for this lies in the fact that the blonde's hair has a radiance that catches the eye; she has a delicate white complexion like the fresh dawn, and fine, gentle features; and she is also distinguished by a weakness and a strong tenderness that melt men's hearts!

Hence many brunettes have resorted to dyeing their hair, in the hope of winning thereby what

gratifies a woman's vanity — a man's admiration.

Winning the Husband

Then comes the brunette's turn, in the second round, as the statisticians also say: she triumphs over her rival by winning the man in 55% of cases.. for it has been shown that men prefer life under one roof with the black-haired, because they are, as they say, more vital, more active, and more affectionate than blondes.

The doctors confirm what the statisticians say concerning the brunette's superiority over the blonde in activity, vitality, and feeling; and the source of this lies in the glands that secrete the elements of bodily activity in the brunette's body.

In spite of this, the man, under the urging of instinct, moves in his first motions toward the blonde — except in one case, in which the brunette outdoes her rival by more than 65% of the points: when she enjoys hair black as night, a warm, wine-dark complexion, and deep, flashing eyes.

At times there appears another competition, of the most dangerous kind, in which a woman with red hair sweeps both blonde and brunette away, turning the world upside down and taking the man captive with no escape. But, by good fortune or ill, she is rare, for redheads number no more than 1% of women.

The Brunette's Scent... Like Violets!

The brunette's natural perfume, which breathes from her body, is heavy and tender like the perfume of violets; the reason being that her skin is more fertile than the blonde's, so that it quickly drives manufactured perfume from her body, whereas the blonde retains it a long while, owing to the dryness of her skin and its need for fatty or oily substances.

That is why the blonde is usually in greater need of perfumes than the brunette.

Rapid Fading

In her struggle against her rival the brunette is armed with a weapon women dread and fear like death itself: age and growing old!

For the brunette says — and the statistics and plain fact bear her out — that youth stretches over her life far longer than over the blonde's.

In fact the blonde of twenty-five looks younger than a brunette of the same age; but once the two have passed thirty, the difference between them shows plainly: the second keeps her youth, while the first loses her radiance and submits to the cruelty of time and its wrinkles.

Yet upon this superiority of the brunette's the hand of the beautician's art has quickly begun to creep — with massage, and with powders that pass over a woman's skin with a practiced,

expert touch, and with pastes and the like that do away with those creases and restore to the beautiful face its charm and its freshness.

It may spring to mind that it is easy to know a blonde and tell her apart; in fact this is far from the truth, for the dye to which women so often resort, with skill and precision, does away with the true difference between the genuine blonde and the false.

The genuine blonde may be known by her delicate skin and by that soft, colorless down spread over her body; her arteries and veins show easily, the blood flowing through them visibly, so that her blush, however slight, draws the eye.

Brown spots often appear on the blonde's skin, especially in early life; hence she is more exposed to diseases of the skin than the brunette.

And what is said of the blonde is said in reverse of the brunette: she is easily known by her skin, and since her glands are constantly active she enjoys a glowing, rich, supple skin.

This natural gift often destroys its own beauty in cases of the oily secretion that afflicts the face and chin.

Strangest of all, finally, it has been found that the number of genuine blondes comes to about 10 percent of women in countries where women's characteristics are evenly matched, while genuine brunettes in the same countries reach a proportion of only 20 percent.
