The American Society for Middle East Relief

* The American Society for Middle East Relief concerns itself with collecting relief for the Palestinian refugees. In the picture, Mrs. Eva Malik, wife of Dr. Charles Malik, Lebanon's Minister Plenipotentiary in Washington, is seen receiving "school supplies" from one of the Najjadeh girls in the Manhattan district; beside her is Dr. Bayard Dodge, former president of the American University of Beirut and a member of the board of directors of the American Society.

President of the Women Students

During the past month, the women students' organization at the American University of Beirut held a special meeting to elect a president for the coming academic year, and it elected

Miss Daad Sawaybil, a graduate of the American College for Girls, who entered the University at the beginning of this year. Great satisfaction prevails in the circles concerned at the University over the result of these elections, given the energy and activity for which Miss Daad is known.

Nor is this the first time she has won such a distinction: she previously headed the National Relief Committee at the College for Girls, where she gave proof of a skill and drive that made her worthy of every confidence.

Celebrations

The Baccalaureate Section attached to the American University of Beirut held a grand celebration, to which it invited the students' families and a crowd of friends. The students kept these festivities going for three consecutive days, presenting in them delightful varieties of acting, music, and recitation, in the three languages — Arabic, French, and English...

This celebration is a school tradition in the Baccalaureate Section, held by the school every year at about this time; and this year's celebration was successful to a great degree, in which the students of this section gave proof of merit and of outstanding gifts in music and in acting.

Here are some scenes from the celebration:

A scene from the play "Between a Day and a Night," acted by Jamal Abbas, Sami Karam (the minister), and George Riz (the tough).

Another scene, from the French play "The Counterfeiters," in which Elie Asali, Robert Arab, Abou Halka, and Riz appear.

In the English play "Grilled Meat," Abdul Hamid al-Fil, Taqula Ghibril, and Chalko appear.
