... Her two pampered lambs come
to graze in the shade of my garden's trees,
and if ever they lose their way
into my barley field,
I lift them up in my arms...
... The name of our village is "Khanjana,"
and they call our river "Anjana,"
and my name is known to everyone—
but her name, it is "Ranjana."

*

And a single field divides us...
The bees that are in our garden
go to seek their honey
in their garden,
and their flowers, falling into the river,
are carried by the current to our pond,
and baskets of "kusm" flowers
the vendors carry from their fields
to our market...
... The name of our village is "Khanjana,"
and they call our river Anjana,
and my name is known to everyone—
but her name, it is "Ranjana."

*

The lane that leads to her house
is fragrant in the days of spring
with the scent of "mango" blossoms,
and the stars that smile
above their hut
send us their glittering glance,
and the rains that fill their ponds
refresh our woods.
... The name of our village is "Khanjana"...
and they call our river "Anjana,"
and my name is known to everyone—
but her name... it is "Ranjana."
