The Druze Orphan Committee's Benefit

حفلة لجنة اليتيم الدرزي

On May 21 the Druze Orphan Committee gave a charity party in the hall of the Roxy Cinema, under the patronage of the wife of His Excellency the Prime Minister, interspersed with varieties of music and song.

And perhaps what best represents the committee's aim and its effort is what came in the address with which Mrs. Asma Abu Izzeddin opened the party, in which she described the orphan as one "whom fate has deprived of a father's tenderness and a mother's affection, and who has found in the sons of his clan and his people a stay and a support that make him feel he is the equal of the other sons of his nation, and that impel him, when he has grown and matured, to render to this nation the debt and the duty that lie upon his neck. The Druze Orphan's Home, despite its recent founding and the slenderness of its material means, has to this day made a tangible effort: it has managed to raise a home for the orphan that falls short of none of the most modern institutions of its kind in appearance and in order, and has extended assistance to some three hundred orphans, taking charge of their upbringing and their feeding, with the aim of making of them today a rising generation of promise, and of their being tomorrow good citizens."
