A Survey of Men of Thought on Women's Political Rights

On the occasion of the women's associations meeting in a quasi-conference to continue their study of the question of woman's political rights, "The Woman's Voice" presents the first of the surveys it has begun among men of opinion of "the ruling sex!" Here is the view of Mr. Fidura, Advocate General at the Court of Cassation in Beirut.

In the coming issue it will present the views of a number of prominent men on the same subject.

Q: What is your opinion of woman's rights?

A: When the ordinary Lebanese man exercises his rights in full, it will become the woman's right to strive to obtain these rights. But so long as the Lebanese man — and I mean here the voter who lags behind in exercising his right — is still ignorant of the meaning of this right, it seems strange to me that women should strive to obtain a right which man declines to exercise.

The Woman's Voice: There is no cause for surprise, Honorable Advocate General. If the man sleeps through polling day, so that — on the word of those who say so — only a tiny number, forming no percentage worth mention, come forward to the ballot box, is the woman to be blamed if she holds fast to this right? Or would you have her leave it to the goblins?!

And there is another matter: if the man feels disgust at the Chambers, who told the man that the woman is fed up too?
