You are in the month of July; the summer holiday has begun, and some of you are puzzled how to spend your free time, even though you have many games. And some of you incline to one of the hobbies in which you find pleasure and profit, such as reading, or collecting postage stamps, or raising tame animals and birds, or music, or collecting rare coins, or handwork such as carpentry, carving, and painting, or other hobbies that please you. One of you may love more than one hobby. What is required in this competition is this: that each child among you (whether boy or girl), aged between 8 and 12 years, choose his favorite hobby, write about it, describe it, and say why he loves it and what its benefit is to him.
The conditions:
1 — Attach the competition coupon to your answers, and send your photographs if you like, to be published with the winners' answers.
2 — The entry must be written in a simple, correct style and in a clear hand.
3 — Its words must not exceed 100 words.
4 — The last date for receiving your answers is July 31, 1950,
at the following address:

Take a potato, 4 matchsticks, and some feathers of small birds. Draw the rooster's head on a piece of thick cardboard and cut it out, and color the eye black and the rest of the head red. Prick the potato with a toothpick at the marked points and set in the head and the feathers; and finally put in the legs, made of the matches, as you see in the small drawing.
