the feast of His Majesty's accession to the throne of Morocco, which is the greatest national holiday in the country.

Would you speak a little of the Emirs and Emiras, in your capacity as a former teacher at the Royal Institute?

His Majesty the King of Morocco, who contributes an ample share toward the achievement of a comprehensive popular advance, has spared no effort to make of his children, the Emirs and Emiras, the ideal model of the young man and the young woman. Since I had the honor of teaching the Crown Prince, His Highness the Emir Moulay Hassan, and his brother the Emir Moulay Abdallah, and the honor of attending them for four whole years at the Royal Institute in the Sultan's palace, I was able during that period to study the measure of His Majesty's concern that the two Emirs be a byword for the youth of Morocco. He would come in person to the Royal Institute, listen to the lessons, watch over the Emirs' progress at close hand, and supply those in charge of the Institute with his counsels and directions.

I do not doubt that the valuable program which His Highness the Crown Prince received in the various Arabic and French studies, together with His Highness's natural aptitude, helped bring out his gifts, and enabled him two years ago to shine in the examinations for the two baccalaureate certificates, surpassing even the French themselves. Today he is pursuing his studies at the Faculty of Law in Rabat, and it is expected that next year he will obtain the final diploma in Rabat.

As for the Emir Moulay Abdallah, who is still pursuing his secondary studies, his intelligence and great aptitude qualify him to live up to the good opinion of his father and of the generous Moroccan people.

Nor can I forget Her Highness the Emira Aisha, who is approaching the baccalaureate, and whom her father has made the ardent advocate of the woman's cause and the orator battling for her rights. Besides Arabic she has a good command of

French and English, and she has an inclination toward music and sports, especially horsemanship.

Her stands have had a great effect on women's progress during the last six years; the reactionaries — and how many they are among the nations of the East generally —

could do nothing but yield before the will of people and King, and if they whispered, their whisper was lost between their lips.
