The Committee for the Entertainment of Youngsters — The Lebanese Public Health Association

لتسلية الاحداث - افتتاح نادي الاحداث · لجنة تسلية الاحداث - الجمعية اللبنانية للصحة العامة

On November 11, 1950, at exactly three o'clock in the afternoon, this club — which is the first of its kind in the Arab countries — was opened. More than 300 children attended the celebration with their families; they were introduced to its various sections, watched motion-picture films, and had sweets and refreshments until five o'clock.

The club's location: Sadat Street — Ras Beirut — the Itani building. You will see a sign, or signboard, at its entrance.

The club's hours: Monday and Tuesday, 4–6 p.m.; the other days of the week, except Sunday, 3–5 p.m.; Sunday, 9–12 a.m.

Subscription: 3 Lebanese lira monthly for each child, or 25 Lebanese lira yearly, payable in two or three installments; 10% is deducted for each additional subscription within the same family, and subscriptions are paid in advance. Private lessons in handwork and in piano are given by additional arrangement, and a non-subscriber is entitled to use the club upon payment of 50 Lebanese piasters a day.

The preventive-medicine clinic at the club: The Lebanese Public Health Association is concerned to create a model clinic, not only to protect youngsters from disease, but to protect the individual at all his ages and stages of life and to improve his health, instead of merely attending to his treatment after he has been struck by illness.

Among the works this clinic carries out are: health guidance and preventive information for every individual who visits it for consultation according to his need; the giving of the vaccinations required for protection against the various diseases; the holding of periodic health (not sickness) examinations, in the attempt to detect certain ailments at their very beginning; and the spreading of health education by every means among the various groups.
