The Death of Queen Aliya

وفاة الملكة عالية

Iraq was stricken, and with it the Arab world, by the grievous blow that befell it in the death of the late Queen Aliya, mother of His Majesty King Faisal II. For some months past she had been in critical condition, and she had returned to her homeland not long before. Her Majesty was thirty-three years of age.

Her funeral was held in the presence of vast crowds, and after a brief prayer before the tomb where rest the remains of the late King Faisal I and of King Ghazi, her husband, officers of the army bore the great departed into the burial chamber and laid her coffin beside the coffin of King Faisal.

Mourning has been proclaimed at the royal court for six months.

'The Woman's Voice' offers its condolences to the royal family and to the two peoples of Iraq and Jordan, and prays God to grant the departed rest in the wideness of His Paradise.
