and patriotic anthems sung. What most stirred the admiration of those present was the little girl Huda Kabba, daughter of the late Dr. Nuri Kabba, formerly dean of the Orthodox schools in Homs: she recited some verses of poetry with rare boldness, fine diction, and cadence — which led the proprietors of the Homs newspapers to publish her picture on their front pages.
Among the most splendid parties of the season was that of the Ladies' Charitable Society. The society held a grand party at the Hotel Saint-Georges on Saturday, February 3, with dancing, games of bridge, and more. The party was under the patronage of the society's honorary president, Her Ladyship Mrs. Laure, wife of His Excellency the President.
This magazine takes the occasion of the party to commend the society for its activity, its zeal, and its aid to the poor and needy, and to thank the administrative committee — made up of Mesdames Kettaneh, Chiha, Bared, and Takla — for their much-appreciated labors.
Among the month's lectures were:
* The lecture by Mr. Mohammed al-Baalbaki, editor-in-chief of our colleague "Kull Shay'," on "The Conscious Citizen." He delivered it on January 29 at the Cénacle Libanais, in the lecture hall of the Ministry of National Education.
* And the lecture by Mr. Wasif Baroudi, inspector of secondary education at the Ministry of National Education, on "The Crisis of Youth." He delivered it on January 24 in the Empire Hall, under the auspices of Mar Ephrem College in Zahle.
* And the lecture by Mr. Rushdi Ma'alouf, on "The Appreciation of Beauty." Might he still be yearning for the themes of poetry and beauty, which he forsook
for journalism and teaching? He delivered it on January 31 in the Empire Hall, under the auspices of Mar Ephrem College in Zahle.
* And the lecture by the deputy Mr. Kamal Jumblatt, president of the Progressive Socialist Party, on "International Relations and Their Possibilities in the Arab World." He delivered it on January 24 at Beirut College for Women, under the auspices of the International Relations Club. Mr. Jumblatt made it a condition upon the club that no representative of the press be invited to attend the lecture (!!) — but that did not prevent "The Woman's Voice" from attending and listening, with Mr. Jumblatt's knowledge, and with his frankness and boldness..
At the opening of this year, God graced Mr. Ghalib al-Buhayri and his lady wife with a baby boy, their firstborn, whom they named "Muhammad" as a blessing after his grandfather's name. May God make him one of the children of well-being, and may he be the delight of his dear parents' eyes.
We have received from Cairo the following letter:
To the esteemed editor of "The Woman's Voice":
... To proceed: I am an Egyptian student in the fourth year at the
Ibrahimiyya Secondary School in Cairo. I am 16 years old. I am fond of photography, music, and collecting postage stamps, and I am also an athlete and a member of several sporting clubs in Egypt. I beg you to publish my address in your magazine, or to send me the address of a cultured Lebanese girl with whom I may correspond. Yours truly...
The sender's address:

No. 8, al-Ikhshid Street, al-Rawda, Cairo, Egypt.
Dr. Maroun Bahout recently returned to Lebanon, after spending three years in France, England, and Switzerland, where he earned several advanced medical degrees in the health and medicine of children and adolescents.
It is worth mentioning that he has brought to his clinic, which he has established opposite the Saint Charles Hospital on Georges Picot Street, the most modern equipment for the treatment and care of children from birth to maturity.
We wish him the success he deserves.
