The Engagement of Miss Norma Nasta

* Among the happy news from Mexico is that our friend Mr. Ramez Shehadeh, one of the nationalist young men well known in various circles, has concluded his engagement to the beautiful Miss Norma Nasta, daughter of Mr. Khalil Nasta and Mrs. Layla Jbeili Nasta, both originally of Homs in Syria.

Miss Norma was born in Mexico, the youngest of five children, and grew up in a house known in the Mahjar for its nobility and open-handed generosity. She is fluent in English, Spanish, and French, speaks colloquial Arabic well, and is now applying herself to the study of literary Arabic and of Italian. She has a special passion for poetry and for music, especially the classical kind and opera. Last summer Miss Norma, in the company of her mother, made a visit to Lebanon and Syria that lasted five months. She returned from her mother country with its memory ever on her lips, expressing her admiration for its beauty, and declaring that she looks forward with longing to making her home there in the future.

To the happy betrothed pair, then, our most sincere congratulations — and may the rejoicing be brought to fullness.

The Marriage of Dr. Philippe al-Khazen and Miss Renée Akl

* At ten o'clock on the morning of Sunday, April 22 last, the marriage contract was celebrated of Dr. Philippe Hanna al-Khazen, professor at the French Faculty of Medicine, to the highly cultivated Miss Renée Akl, daughter of Camille Bey Akl, deputy for Batroun, and Mrs. Margot Maannaq, the two having lately arrived from Colombia.

The crowning took place in the church of the French Faculty of Medicine, and attendance was confined to the families of the bride and groom. The marriage rites were performed by His Grace Archbishop Ignatius Mubarak, and after the crowning a Mass was celebrated by Father Dupré-Latour, rector of the Medical Faculty, who attended the ceremony in the company of Father Prévost, rector of the Jesuit University. The guests then passed on to a sumptuous luncheon at the house of Camille Bey Akl. The bride wore an organdy gown embroidered with raffia, a Dior creation sewn by Madame Chantal, with tulle gloves

and a wreath, likewise of raffia.

At three o'clock the bride and groom left for Europe by way of Rome to spend their honeymoon. On Monday evening a charming

reception was held at the house of Dr. al-Khazen, attended by a large gathering of the best society and its notables. May theirs be prosperity and progeny.
