The Wedding of Vida Raad and Kamal Shuqayr

• On September 22 last, in Ain Zhalta, the wedding was celebrated of Miss Vida Raad, daughter of the notable Tawfiq Bey Raad, to Mr. Kamal Shuqayr, one of the Lebanese residing in Alexandria. The crowning was blessed by His Grace Bishop Elia Karam and a company of the Orthodox clergy. The guests, ladies and gentlemen, whose number exceeded a thousand persons, were then invited to an evening party at the Raad family home, whose splendor was heightened by the Lebanese village color which the people of the house preserved, despite their having invited great personalities — deputies, consuls, journalists, lawyers, physicians, men of letters, and notables.

The people of the village brought to life a night out of the Thousand and One Nights, interspersed with sword-and-shield play, hida chants, and zajal.

To the two noble newlyweds go the congratulations of The Woman's Voice, and its best wishes for a life of plenty.

Ahmad Sameh al-Khalidi

The hand of death has claimed the great educator Mr. Ahmad Sameh al-Khalidi, formerly Director of Education in the Government of Palestine and founder of the Arab College in Jerusalem.

After the catastrophe of Palestine and his coming to Lebanon, he devoted himself to defending the Arab character of his homeland in articles which the Beirut papers published for him; and he never ceased working for the sake of his homeland and his brethren, establishing in Lebanon several schools for the children of the refugees, among them the "al-Jinniyya" school, which comprises 450 boy pupils and 150 girl pupils.

The Salam family — the deceased being their kinsman by marriage — cabled news of his death to his widow, who is in London. Condolences are received at the Salam family home in the Musaytbeh quarter.

The Woman's Voice extends to the honorable al-Khalidi and Salam families its warm condolences, and asks mercy and divine favor for the deceased.
