Overcome Insomnia

تغلبي على الأرق

For the sake of your enjoying calm, restful sleep, and your victory over insomnia — that greatest enemy of your beauty and your youthfulness — listen to the three counsels of "The Woman's Voice":

1 — Do not work up to the very last moment before you go to bed.. and do not resort to tasks that excite your nerves and stir up your thinking.. Even reading will sometimes drive sleep from your tired eyelids. Therefore the best thing you can do immediately before sleep is to listen to light, quiet music, or to lie down with your eyes closed in a dim light, for twenty minutes.

2 — Take a warm bath before sleep, if you are prone to insomnia — that is, sit in a tub filled with warm water for 25 minutes.. Afterward set about drying your body gently and softly, without rubbing briskly, for such briskness is apt to rouse your drowsy senses just as they are ready for sleep.. A hot bath, likewise, does not help sleep but produces the opposite reaction — so avoid it.

3 — Do not go to bed on an empty stomach; at the same time, a heavy meal before sleep causes great discomfort. The best thing to eat, then, is a light sandwich with a glass of warm milk or lemonade, for the blood's occupation with digesting it leaves the brain in a state of relaxation that helps bring on sleep.
