The Tahdhib al-Fatat Society's Dance

* The evening event of the week in the Lebanese capital was the grand ball held by the Tahdhib al-Fatat Society — Beirut branch, presided over by Mrs. Zahia Saad — at the International Club, under the patronage of the Prime Minister, Sami Bey al-Solh.

The "Tahdhib al-Fatat" party was distinguished by Lebanese elegance, which showed in the slender figures at elegance's amplest — simplicity and art. What helped the party's success was the merry atmosphere the members shed over the ballroom and the surpassing care with which they surrounded their guests, which tempted the dancing men and women to prolong the dancing until a late hour of the night.

It was understood from an informed source that the party's proceeds came to several thousand liras, to be spent on the education of needy girls in whom the conditions of intelligence and good conduct are fulfilled.

The Athletic Festival of the Makassed College for Girls

* The athletic festival held by the Makassed College for Girls was one of the glories of cultural

activity and a clear proof of the care this institute devotes to developing the athletic spirit in the souls of the young and raising their social level. Every year we see a new step and a bold leap in the field of this art, which is rightly counted among the loftiest openings of freedom and the highest ascents toward perfection.

This year the said college brought over a lady specialist from Sweden to train the pupils in Swedish gymnastics and in beautiful rhythmic dance, and this yielded successful, palpable

results, witnessed by great crowds of ladies and young ladies, who admired them beyond measure and went off voicing their praise of the ladies who put on this splendid festival.

In the picture above appears one of the scenes of the dancing, in a charming pose.

The Rotary Club Banquet in Beirut

* Refined Lebanese circles are still talking, with much admiration, about the grand dinner banquet to which the Rotary Club in Beirut extended its invitations, on the occasion of the forty-seventh anniversary of its founding.

The party was under the patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic; owing to a sudden indisposition, His Excellency Sami al-Solh, President of the Council of Ministers, deputized for him.

The terrace of the Saint-Georges Hotel was thronged with the guests, who numbered 350 ladies and gentlemen, and all eyes were drawn to the formal elegance that marked both the men and the women — so that it may fairly be said that this Rotary party was an elegant parade of the latest fashions and a shining proof of the generosity of the club's members and the breadth of their lavishness.

And the circles of dancers went on turning and turning, in an atmosphere of dignified gaiety, until the break of dawn.

... one of the scenes of splendor and lavishness at the Rotary Club's evening party.
