Results of the Nestlé Pictures Contest

Here we are today, keeping our promise and publishing the results of the Nestlé baby-pictures contest, in the order adopted by the arbitration committee of physicians composed of Dr. Hélène Safi and Doctors Philippe Chedid, A. Sahmarani, and Iskandar Choueiri.

Some mothers have voiced their regret that we did not summon the competing children before the arbitration committee and under the eyes of a watching public. But we did not move to grant this wish, which would spread joy in mothers' hearts, for fear of possible contagion among the children when they gather in unsuitable rooms and in weather that is more often than not disagreeable. We have learned this wisdom from our long experience and our practice in holding contests.

And we remind parents that the arbitration committee's choice of the winners was not based on the child's beauty and charm alone, but on the excellence of the artistic execution of the photograph. We also draw attention to the fact that the contest was reserved for small babies, yet many older children took part in it. The committee took this matter into account in choosing the winners, since small babies and older children cannot be set together on one and the same level:

First prize — Elie Almajian — Beirut — 75 Lebanese liras Second prize — Julia Jabr — Beirut — 50 Lebanese liras Third prize — Mona Badih Wakim — Jounieh — 25 Lebanese liras, with a prize of honor

Likewise, the photographs are at their owners' disposal, and they may collect them from the offices of the Nestlé Company — Tal'et el-Bour, in Beirut. They may not claim them after June 30, 1953, as is the case with the prizes.
