Two Young Kings

The dawn of the second of May broke, and with it rose two shining stars in the sky of Arabism; a new gleam of hope flashed, and prayers went up for the two young kings, the focus of the Arab nation's hopes, that God may guard them with His watchful eye and guide their firm, serene steps toward what is good for the Arabs in general and for their two countries in particular.

Here is Baghdad — upon which calamities followed one upon another, with the death of Faisal, then the violent end of Ghazi, then the passing of the exemplary Queen Aliya — casting off today her garb of deepest black and raising the emblems of adornment and rejoicing.

And Amman, the capital of Jordan, is no less joyful and radiant than Baghdad, for she has forgotten her affliction in Talal's illness and her grief at the slaying of Abdullah; today she is filled with optimism about what her fortunes will become, as on that very day Hussein, the young king, takes up the reins of her leadership, at the height of faith in himself.

The Arabs come forward today, at the opening of this month, offering the warmest congratulations to the two young kings, Faisal and Hussein, praying that glory and eminence be theirs, and prosperity and progress their two sister countries'.
