What's New in Spring Fashions
Mun Hayim

This spring records no great revolution; rather, there are supplementary changes to last winter's fashions, touching the different parts of the

various garments as follows:

The dress: If we wish to begin with the dress, we say: the modern trend leans toward broadening the shoulders beyond what they were in past seasons, by the use of épaulettes, or shoulder padding... As for the waist of the dress, it has been freed from the tight constraints that used to bind the waist so severely; it has become easier and looser than before, and a little lower — and this latter trend gives the hips an idea of ease and repose, whereas the earlier style gave them one of puffiness and flare.

A new trend is noticed in the styles of this spring's dresses: attention is concentrated on the back rather than the front. This emphasis appears in clusters of drapé, pleats, ruffles, knots, and the like, sometimes at the center and sometimes slanted to one side — even the décolleté cut has shifted
