• We publish the picture of the sweet little Amal Joudi Nowayhed, of the community in Venezuela, on the occasion of her fifth birthday. At a grand party given by her generous father, the following verses flowed from the tongue of our poet Mr. Fouad al-Hashan, dedicated to little Amal:

My dream flutters

in an enchanted world,

Shining, like my name, with "hope,"

embroidered with light;

The roses draw their purity

from my pure heart,

And drink their sweet-scented

perfume from my own;

It is said of me: a flower

from the world of flowers.

A Word of Thanks

Mrs. Edvick Jureidini Shayboub extends her deepest thanks and gratitude to all the friends, men and women, who were so kind as to surround her in her painful circumstances and to console her in the loss of her dear mother, whether by their presence in person or by their telegrams and letters, wishing them happiness and peace of mind.

Remember!!
Sabriyya al-Himsi
Remember that day that passed, with all it held,
for how fine it is for one to remember his past.
Remember, if you pass today by the orchard—for memory
brings the heart back drunk with joy, and forgets the bitter dream.
•
Remember the day we walked, not knowing where we went—
was it an orchard we entered, or were dreams beguiling us?
How wondrous was that day—if only our past could return,
we would go back to plundering the hours, and time none the wiser;
and if it knew my longings, yesterday would come back like the dawn.
•
Remember, at the setting of the sun, when the sun was calling me
to go—but love and the night were tempting me
to stay; and how lovely this night would be, if only it lasted,
and how sweet—the sighs and the pains turned to melodies,
and the longings of our two hearts feeding the blaze.
•
Remember the hour of farewell—would that time had destroyed me—
and a dreaming face, overwhelmed by sorrow, that wore me away;
and those tears, how they flowed from two eyes that love me;
and how I left him to suffer, and surrendered to my griefs.
Can you forget me, you who are the revelation and the inspiration, O source of my songs?
