Miscellany: Lebanon's Victories in Water-Skiing, and Lebanon's Guests

• Lebanon has won its greatest triumph in the field of sport, in the international water-skiing championship held at Montreux (Switzerland) on the 8th and 9th of August last.

Lebanon carried off the following major prizes:

1 – Mr. Simon Khoury: first among the men. 2 – Mr. Robert Nader: fourth. 3 – Mr. Rony Thabet: sixth.

And Mrs. Olga Michel Nader won second place among the women.

• In the world competition held at Pörtschach (Austria) on the 14th, 15th, and 16th of August, Lebanon's share of success was no less than in the first competition, and the same persons won, as follows:

1 – Mr. Simon Khoury: second. 2 – Mr. Robert Nader: third. 3 – Mr. Rony Thabet: eighth.

Mrs. Olga Michel Nader likewise took second place. It is worth mentioning that thirteen countries took part in this competition, and the total number of competitors was seventy-two.

To the "Saint-Georges" swimming club our deepest congratulations on this signal victory — and at its head the energetic Mr. Michel Nader and his wife, the champion sportswoman Mrs. Olga.

• Among Lebanon's gracious guests this summer is the lawyer Miss Sabiha al-Sheikh Daoud, staying at Aley, an inspectress in the Iraqi Ministry of Education.

Miss Sabiha al-Sheikh has made many successful rounds in the

social and humanitarian field, and is counted in the vanguard of the Iraqi ladies working to raise woman's standing and to demand her rights.

Several ladies gave banquets in honor of the gracious guest, the most important of them that given by Miss Ibtihaj Kaddoura, president of the General Arab Women's Union, and another given by Dr. Zahia Kaddoura at her home in Aley.

On the occasion of her presence in

Lebanon, Radio Lebanon invited her to deliver a talk on the renaissance of woman in Iraq; the talk was broadcast on the first of September, and it was comprehensive and thorough, arresting the ear and meeting with approval.

A thousand welcomes to the dear friend, who alights here among her own people and in her own homeland. And may she carry to our Iraqi sisters, on her return to Baghdad, the finest and most sincere greetings...
