* On the occasion of the departure of Mr. Adib Nahhas for Brazil to take up his new post as Minister Plenipotentiary of Lebanon, the mother of his wife, Mrs. Marie Abou Chanab, gave a reception at her home on Sunday the 18th of this month, attended by hundreds of guests — officials, diplomats, and friends of the family...

The reception was distinguished by a spirit of understanding and cordiality, in view of the excellent place Mr. Adib Nahhas and his wife Mrs. Alice hold in people's hearts, for the sincere national maturity and the genuine bent for public service known of them... and for their keeping of friendships old and new with loyalty and purity of heart... They are among those few whose high positions have taken nothing from their nobility and modesty — a trait that showed in their standing the whole time at the door, given over to receiving and bidding farewell, dispensing smiles

and good cheer and thanking the hundreds of friends and guests for coming to see them off...

On Thursday, October 22, a very large company of government men, members of the diplomatic corps, and devoted friends saw them off at the airport. 'The Woman's Voice' wishes the two dear friends a happy journey and an absence that will not be long, and it is certain that the government chose them well to carry Lebanon's message in a country like Brazil, where the emigrants are many and where the kindly sentiment binding them to their mother country is drying up little by little.

* Among the most notable manifestations of women's activity of late is the founding of the National Hospital in the Basta quarter of Beirut. Though this hospital is to be directed by Dr. Naji al-Sha'ar, it remains a monument of women's activity, for the one who instituted it is Mrs. Widad Muhammad Said, with the

help of a women's committee. The founder of this hospital is a graduate of the nursing school attached to the Lebanese Red Cross; she has set aside in the hospital a number of free beds for the poor, and she has also approached the government to obtain material aid, so as to secure this humane work in the best possible way.

* Miss Ibtihaj Kaddoura, president of the Arab Women's Union, was among those who suffered a slight wound at the meeting of the heads of the political associations and bodies held at the Najjada House to protest the government's position on the question of Morocco and Tunisia.

Upon the broadcasting of the news, the house of the women's leader filled with hundreds who came to reassure themselves of

her safety and to congratulate her; His Excellency the Prime Minister, Mr. al-Yafi, and the former premiers also visited her to offer their congratulations on her safety and health.

On this occasion Miss Ibtihaj Kaddoura declared that the general congress of the Arab Women's Union, which had been expected to convene next month, has been postponed to next spring, since the necessary preparations for it have not been completed.
