A week ago the administrative committee invited the people of Zahle to listen to the learned Dr. Ni'meh Nahou deliver a lecture on chest diseases and the means of preventing them.
The mistress of ceremonies was Mrs. Emily Nasrallah, secretary of the society. She first presented Miss Salwa Shehadeh, the person in charge of the Children's House, who spoke about the child's daily life and about the running of the Children's House. She was followed by Miss Eugenie Sayegh, treasurer
of the society, who read out the society's budget for the year 1953; after her she presented Dr. Nahou, who spoke at length on the means of preventing and treating chest diseases and on how to protect our children from them .. After the close of the ceremony, booklets written by Dr. Nahou on the subject were distributed to those present.
It is worth mentioning that this is the first time in Zahle that the societies have taken an interest in medical lectures.

• The administration of the American University of Beirut has taken up its customary concern for holding permanent art exhibitions
Mrs. Zahia Salman proposes the establishment of a permanent chair of Arabic literature at the American University of Beirut, to bear the name "Salma Sayegh," and to be granted to the woman who wins an annual literary competition prepared by a committee of men and women of letters under the supervision of the magazine The Woman's Voice. The appeal goes out to the friends of the departed and the admirers of her writing, that each may take part by contributing according to his means. Contributions are to be sent to Mrs. Edvick Jureidini Shayboub, editor-in-chief of The Woman's Voice magazine, in Beirut. Mrs. Salman has opened the subscription with the sum of 25 Lebanese liras.
