Dr. Salwa Nassar lecturing at the Cénacle Libanais, with pictures and equipment around her for the application of some of her theories
Her mind — the pride of the Arab woman, and her guide to the pastures of goodness and truth —
• The lecturer at the Cénacle Libanais on the evening of the twenty-ninth of last March was Dr. Salwa Nassar, head of the Physics Department at the American University of Beirut, who lectured on the subject: "Before the Atom and After It."
Mr. Said Akl introduced the lecturer with an engaging address, the text of which we print on page 12.
Dr. Salwa Nassar expounded as freely as her subject allowed, recounting the facts of the atom: its properties, its composition, its analysis, its energy, and its importance in this age.
Then she set forth the distinguishing features of nuclear energy, endeavoring to bring its lofty scientific value home to the minds of her listeners, for all their varying degrees of culture, and showing the great benefit nuclear energy holds for industry, for lighting, and for fuels — especially since we live in an age in which coal has fallen short of supplying the world with what it needs of it.
Then she spoke of nuclear energy's capacity to reveal ages, and of its capacity for "annihilation," and finally of the use of nuclear radiation to sterilize medicines and to treat cancer and other intractable diseases —

Nazik al-Mala'ika lecturing in Beirut
On Saturday, April 10, the Islamic Makassed College in Beirut gave the invitation to the third lecture in the series "Toward a Better Arab World." The Iraqi poetess Miss Nazik al-Mala'ika treated the subject from its social aspect, and the place was packed as the hall of the Ministry of Education had never known before.
Dr. Suhayl Idris introduced the lecturer,
preparing the fitting atmosphere by setting
