Heart Talk: Nothing

Aphrodite

حديث القلب - لا شيء · افروديت

... Nothing do I want, my beloved, nothing,
but a handful of thanks, dew-moist,
my portion of your world today,
these limpid moments, and a red butterfly
swaying above a bud, alighting upon it..
or not alighting!

And a love-dazed canary, that knows not for which flower to sing,
nor upon which branch to flutter...

O majesty of the stillness, wrapping the universe in a mantle of bliss,
and wrapping me, soul and body — a heap of weariness!

... As far as the eye can reach, nature surges, whole climates of beauty;
her face glows, in the luxury of shyness,
out of a thousand shadows,

and out of a thousand perfumes, wafting...
And I — daughter of the earth — a grain of its dust, orphaned,
upon grass and lilies I sleep,
and I shut, against the world's cares and its forebodings,
my mind and my heart...

If only I had... a heart great like yours,
to wipe from my soul the burdens of sorrow,
to color my pale dreams,
to strew my paths with beauties and sweet things.
If only I had an arm, sinewy like yours,
to prop my drooping head
and ward off from me treachery's blow...
And beyond this, nothing do I want,
my beloved, nothing!
