Male and Female Created He Them

... From São Paulo — Brazil — Mrs. Mariana Fakhouri wrote to "The Woman's Voice" with this word of guidance, inspired in her by the youngest of her children, who has reached his seventeenth year. She said:

★

This is the law of nature and the order of the universe; and from this order and that law man swerves, that he may hide in the darkness of ignorance — man's ignorance of himself. And once man knows himself, he grasps the truth whose lights radiate within him: that his body is a composite universe like the greater universe. Man, indeed, is nothing but a creator god — but one ignorant of the universe of his own creation.

O humanity, shrunk in upon yourself, is it not time you unpicked your threads? — these threads that line you with selfishness and carry you back a thousand years.

You demand freedom, knowledge, and beauty; and freedom, knowledge, and beauty are nothing but the breaking loose from this selfishness and the answering of the voice of truth crying out in your depths.

Centuries have passed and centuries pass, and this man — this creator god — remains huddled behind the truth of himself.

Male or female, female and male, in whom the forces of nature and its influences answer one another, drawing each toward the other and forming of them the single human being — the complete human being — that he may rise in feeling and thought to the station of the gods and become a creator.

The active forces of attraction present in man's constitution answer to the living feeling that lies hidden behind the sexual sense, kindling in it the incense of holiness and bowing in its sacred temple to fulfill the will of God, the law of nature, the order of creation, and the secret of existence.

Man is a creator by his feeling and his sensibility — by the sacred fire that burns in his being — and not by bestial lust; for the secret of creation is a living feeling that blazes within man, felt alike by the child, the adolescent, the adult, and the aged.

When this feeling awakens in the child, and he senses the sacred fire kindling in his being to prepare him for life — that is, for the sacred task for which just nature is fitting him — he turns to his parents, asking them, in his simple, innocent way, the secret of this feeling and the manner of this existence. And they rebuke him with scolding and reproach, brand him as shameless, and threaten him with a beating should he repeat such talk.

Then he turns to comrades and friends — but does he know how to choose his comrades and friends, having no experience of life? If he is fortunate, God provides him with those who guide him to the truth and prepare his soul for a tranquil future; if not, he falls in the first battle of the soul, loses his strength, corrupts his divinity, and destroys his "creation" — that is, his offspring.

We must therefore accustom the child to frankness and truthfulness in word and in deed, be faithful in teaching him the lessons of life and the fine points of their meanings, and furnish him with the guidance that will keep him from stumbling.

The child must understand, before all else, that the human body is a universe composed of small universes joined one to another and subject to a single order; and these small universes are nothing other than the glands, the organs, the senses, the vessels, and the channels, each serving the others.

The child should know that the six senses are sight, hearing, smell, taste,

and touch, and the seeing eye that perceives by sense and feeling, which is within man; that the brain is the seat of the mind in the little kingdom of his body (that is, the throne of the Lord); that the heart is for the circulation of the blood, and the lungs for breathing and drawing in the pure air that enters them through the nose; that the stomach is the digestive apparatus by which the body is nourished; that the office of the liver and the spleen is to cleanse the blood and purify it of germs, like the two kidneys, which distill the fluids and purify the channels; and that the intestines absorb food, deliver it to the body, and pass its spoiled residue outside — and we must keep them clean, lest the deposits of food become congested within them, affecting the circulation of the blood and causing headaches and other pains.

As for the reproductive system, it is the most important of them all, and upon it the balance of body, mind, and thought depends; for it is man's holy of holies, the seat of sensation and feeling — nay, it is love, happiness, and world peace itself.

And this sacred fire that burns in his body is nothing but an emotion and a feeling by which man, through his thought, rises to creation, if he directs it well. But if he misconstrues it and answers the bestial appetite, he falls from the throne of divinity into the mire of defilement.

Fathers must make their children understand that nature, life, and everything whatsoever in existence — animal, plant, and mineral — are the image and likeness of God, and that He created them male and female to carry out His law and to confirm the secret of existence.

Humanity today staggers under the burdens of malignant hereditary diseases that take form in the embryo while it is still a seed, then grow as it grows, lying hidden behind the weak glands until, when some illness assails it, they come forth from their lair and impose their dominion over the organs.

And these glands in which the hereditary disease lies hidden fall sick as well when they cannot bear the burden of heavy food, or foul air, damp weather, the press of work, or excess in its every kind.

Upon you, then, O woman, falls the greatest duty; for on the measure of your knowledge, your culture, and your courage the destiny of life depends.

Refine the inclinations of the rising generation with knowledge, and direct their thoughts toward the higher aims, that their passions may submit to the rule of reason; and make them understand that the geniuses of humanity are the children of sound living, for they are descended from fathers strong in body and in mind.

Speak the truth, and proclaim it aloud.

And lift the veil.

And give humanity happiness, peace, tranquility, and love — together with wakefulness to the immortal light that shines in the depths of your soul.
