Take Part in the Grand Competition

Of the Commissariat of Tourism and Summering and the magazine "The Woman's Voice"

• Would you not love to appear in the guise of an old Lebanese emira, or a beautiful country girl of centuries past?

• Does it not occur to you to follow the example of the seven charmers who will wear the old Lebanese costume at the São Paulo exposition this coming July?

• Do you not long to break away from the familiar run of general fashions, dictated by the magazines and decreed by the fashion houses, so as to stand apart and discover for yourself the unique Lebanese costume, and to apply its splendor and its charm to your own person?

• And do you hope, in return, for some precious Oriental prizes as a gift from the Commissariat of Tourism and Summering?

• Come then, starting now, and choose for yourself an old, "classic" Lebanese costume; send the magazine your picture in it. After that you will enter the arena of competition for the winning dress, at a grand dance this summer!

• That your dress may be authentic and fulfill the conditions of its national character, visit the museum of the Beiteddine Palace, or the workshops of Zouk, or, finally, the Oriental souks, the bazaars, and the specialty markets.

• And call upon the studies of the writers, such as Karam al-Bustani's "The Emiras of Lebanon" or "The Green Guide"; then go and draw inspiration from him who has so often drawn inspiration from your native grace in his poetry, and take your model from him who has so often taken the dress of your first grandmother as his model in his paintings and statues.

• And from the Commissariat of Tourism and Summering and the magazine The Woman's Voice, the very best wishes and heartiest congratulations to you, Madam — to your gracefulness and to your art.

Good luck!

• Await the details of the competition in the next issue.
