The Night Schools

المدارس الليلية

Run by the Young Women's Christian Association

The Young Women's Christian Association spends an ample share of its effort and of its budget on the night schools for working girls who have had no chance to complete their studies, and for illiterate girls who have been denied the pleasure of learning.

The association has three night schools: one in Furn el-Chebbak, the second in Nahr, and the third with its center at the Cooperation Club, Fakhry Bey Street. Over each of these schools an official appointed by the association keeps watch, and the teaching is carried on by a select group of students of the American University of Beirut, who give this service free of charge for the sake of raising the level of these girls.

The number of pupils who registered their names in 1953–1954 was about 200, with an average attendance of 125. It is hoped that this number will grow in the coming year.
