This season of every year stands out as the season of harvest and ingathering. In it the schools bring their labors to a close and hold their traditional ceremonies for the distribution of diplomas to the graduating girls and the announcement of the fruits of striving and work... In this season, too, the exhibitions of handwork and home economics multiply, along with the athletic festivals and Swedish gymnastics, and we see the teaching institutes, one and all, in ceaseless motion, like a hive of bees, making ready for the summer season and the rest of the holidays...

• Among the displays of this art was the opening of the exhibition of home economics and handwork held by the Makassed College for Girls in its hall, showing samples of the pupils' work in every kind of embroidery, openwork, drawing, household ornament, and the like. In truth this exhibition was of such artistry and finish that it was thronged with visitors, who came in a steady stream throughout the week of the showing, praising the institute's efforts — in the person of its directress, Miss Ihsan Mahmasani — on behalf of an art that truly stands in the front rank of what our girls need for their lives to come.

• In mid-June the Society for the Protection of Lebanese Children, attached to the Lebanese Red Cross and presided over by Mrs. Malaki Haik, gave its annual party at the Hamra Street school, on the occasion of the close of the school year. A company of ladies and gentlemen attended, watched a light play performed by the little ones, and listened to merry patriotic songs that were greeted with applause and admiration.

• Another party was that given by the Young Muslim Women's Association for the distribution of diplomas to its graduating pupils, held in the garden of the Islamic Orphanage.

The party was under the patronage of the Minister of Education and Fine Arts, who was so kind as to distribute the

diplomas himself. The president of the association, Mrs. Habiba Yakan, welcomed the company, and Mr. Muhyi al-Din al-Nsouli delivered the address of the day; the proceedings were interspersed with charming patriotic anthems,

well performed by the pupils of the institute.

• On Sunday, June 20, the Women's Committee of the Druze Orphanage held its annual charity gala in the hall of the Dunia Cinema, under the patronage of
