Oneness in Wives

Abu al-Ala al-Ma'arri

التوحيد في الزوجات · أبو العلاء المعري

By Abu al-Ala al-Ma'arri:

Whenever you join a partner to one woman,
you have erred in your judgment of the partner;
for if any good were to be hoped for in partners,
the God would not be without a partner.

And in a sermon of al-Mu'izz li-Din Allah the Fatimid, addressed to a delegation of the sheikhs of "Kutama," comes the following:
"Turn thereafter to your women, and keep to the one who is yours; do not crave a multitude of them and a hankering after them, lest your life be embittered, and division come back upon you, and your bodies be worn out, and your strength depart, and your vigor grow weak. For the one man, the one woman suffices."
