In Society — Widad Abou Nader and News of the Arab Women's Union in Jordan

في المجتمعات - وداد ابو ناضر واخبار اتحاد المرأة العربية في الاردن

• Last month Miss Widad Abou Nader returned from a journey to the United States and Europe that lasted four months, on a grant from the Ford Foundation, to observe the work of the social organizations for delinquent juveniles and what they are accomplishing there, in the prisons, by way of modern social services. Miss Abou Nader profited from her observations and her experiences; she visited a number of the states in America, then passed through England and France, in fulfillment of an organized program that the Ford Foundation had prepared for her.

And in Beirut Miss Widad Abou Nader has resumed, with great energy, her work in the Union for the Protection of Juveniles as a social worker delegated by the Ministry of Social Affairs.

• Among the news from Jordan is that the "Arab Women's Union," which is headed by Miss Emily Nasharat, has submitted to His Excellency the Prime Minister and to the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies a letter signed by one hundred ladies and young ladies, demanding that the Jordanian woman be granted her right in the parliamentary and municipal elections, on the occasion of the consideration of the amendment of the electoral law.

And in a second petition submitted by the "Arab Women's Union," seventy ladies demanded the enactment of legislation such as would restrict the matter of the plurality of wives and curb the chaos of divorce, in a way that preserves woman's rights and her dignity, so as to prevent the breakup of the family and to safeguard its harmony.

We wish our sisters, the members of the "Jordanian Women's Union," every success in attaining their demands in full.
