You Owe Your Beauty Its Due

لجمالك عليك حق

1 — From age 12 to 20

Like spring blossom is the color of your face at twelve. But as your body grows, the work of the oil glands increases, and the result is a shiny face, with blackheads breaking out on your skin, and acne.

You ask yourself in bewilderment: what can I do? Remember that what you eat today shows on your face tomorrow. Go slowly with fatty foods and sweets; bathe every day to keep your skin clean, and wash your face three times a day with hot water and soap. You may use a cream that takes the place of soap in cleansing. Always make sure that everything that touches your face is clean—even your hands.

At night use an emollient that wipes away these new appearances, and keep your toilette simple; do not use a liquid oily cream in quantity. And you will not regret, Madam, following these instructions.

2 — From age 20 to 30

You are content with your face now. Watch for the signs of change, for the cheeks may grow dry while the middle of the face remains supple and soft. The answer to this is to double the care of your toilette... Wipe your whole face with cream before sleeping; perform this task scrupulously, leaving no trace of the day's make-up. The safest method is to use a cleansing cream, following it with soap and water.

If you do not master the cleansing, you will soon be asking for help to remove spots and pimples from your face; and if you reach that point, use a preparation that nourishes and cleanses at the same time, giving special attention to the troublesome places.

Even after you reach a good result, do not stop working; make care a habit you follow, to preserve the freshness of your skin.

3 — From age 30 to 40

The skin of your face grows dry and hard during this period, and this will cause you anxiety, no doubt, for wrinkles appear when nature stops supplying your skin with its oily nourishment. This is the time that calls for your attention and your care.

Cut down your use of soap and replace it with a cleansing cream; then make sure to wipe the remains of the soap from your face; be on guard against the wind and the cold, and ward off their harm with a softening cream.

At the least, for twenty minutes a day—and let it always be liquid and oily, so as to keep the softness of your face!

4 — From age 40 upward.

If you have given your face its due of care, it is still well, with a touch of youth upon it; wrinkles appear, but they are light... From now on, double your efforts and your attention, for you are struggling against the current of age: the fatty layer beneath the skin has begun to run dry and shrink.

What do you do to keep your skin supple?

Do you wipe it carefully and gently? Do you protect it from the harshness of the weather and the scorch of the winds? And do you make up for the natural oil with cream?

Hasten to adopt some means that will show you radiant and glowing, with lasting youth and refreshing vitality, so that no observer could ever think you had passed even thirty.

Avoid the gestures and habits that leave plain traces: do not frown, or raise your eyebrows every little while. Make it your habit to apply cream at night, or on
